MUSIQ SOULCHILD

Musiq Soulchild is a hip-hop soul artist that was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He built a reputation for being musically gifted, beat boxing for MC’s, free styling on the open mic circuit or just performing acappella for strangers on the streets. Deeply inspired by the R&B/Soul sound of the 70’’s he uses the name “Soulchild” as a way to show respect and admiration to his biggest musical influences such as Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and many others. In April 2016 he released his 7th studio album entitled “Life On Earth” leading with the new hit single “I Do”. The album peaked at #2 on Billboard R&B album charts and #3 on the Top Hip-Hop R&B album charts. He has received awards from Billboard, BET, ASCAP, BMI, and Soul Train. He has also earned award nominations from MTV, the American Music Awards, the NAACP, and 12 Grammy nominations.

Featuring R.L. Huggar and brothers Terry “T-Low” Brown and Raphael “Tweet” Brown, contemporary R&B trio Next formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota after they were introduced by the Brown’s uncle, a gospel choir director. In September 1997, Next’s debut single, a slow jam titled “Butta Love” — produced by KayGee, Lo-Key’s Lance Alexander, Tony Tolbert, and Darren Lighty — made its debut on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart and eventually, reached number four. They later released the single’s parent album, Rated Next, which went double platinum on the strength of follow-up singles “Too Close” and “I Still Love You.” Welcome II Nextasy, released in June 2000, was not as popular but included “Wifey,” the group’s second number one R&B single. This propelled the album to gold status.

Montell Jordan

The second R&B artist to sign with Def Jam Recordings, Montell Jordan yielded one of 1995’s biggest hits with his debut single, “This Is How We Do It.” The L.A. native had begun singing in talent shows and church choirs as a boy, eventually graduating to nightclubs while pursuing an education at Pepperdine University. Following his college graduation, Jordan spent seven years looking for a record deal, which he finally secured after meeting Paul Stewart, the president of PMP Records. Jordan and Stewart flew to New York, where Jordan sang for Russell Simmons and was promptly signed to a contract.

Regina Belle

Regina Belle is an American singer-songwriter from Englewood, New Jersey. At a young age she began performing at Englewood’s Mount Calvary Baptist Church. She was introduced to the Manhattans by New York radio DJ Vaughn Harper and began working as their opening act. She recorded the 1986 duet, “Where Did We Go Wrong,” with the group which helped to attract the attention of Columbia Records. They eventually signed her to a record deal.

In 1987, she released her debut album, “All By Myself.” It included her first hits “So Many Tears” and “Show Me the Way.” Her follow-up album, “Stay with Me,” was then released in 1989.

Belle recorded a duet in 1991 with Johnny Mathis, “Better Together,” which appeared on his album “Better Together: The Duet Album.” Continuing her tradition of duets, Belle teamed up with Peabo Bryson for the songs “I Can’t Imagine,” “Without You” and “A Whole New World,” which was the featured pop single from the soundtrack to the 1992 Disney movie “Aladdin.” The song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart and won the Grammy Award in 1993 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal as well as the Academy Award for Best Song in later that year.

Also in 1993, Belle released her platinum selling third album, “Passion.” The album featured the Disney hit “A Whole New World,” “Dream In Color” and “If I Could,” which reached #9 on the Billboard R&B chart. Belle released “Reachin’ Back” in 1995 followed by “Believe in Me” in 1998.

In 2001, Regina Belle’s cover of “Just the Two of Us” from the tribute album “To Grover, With Love” made a surprising return to the Billboard charts, and within months Belle would sign with the jazz oriented independent label Peak-Concord Jazz. That same year she released the album “This Is Regina!,” which featured the R&B hit single, “Ooh Boy.” Belle also known for her hits “Make It Like It Was” and “Baby Come To Me” is a must sing for her fans.

In 2004, she released a jazz standard album, “Lazy Afternoon,” which was produced by George Duke. The album included covers of the Isley Brothers’ “For the Love of You” and Tony Bennett’s “If I Ruled the World.” In 2007, she collaborated with smooth jazz saxophonist Paul Taylor, co-writing and singing on his album, “Ladies Choice.” Belle released her debut gospel album, “Love Forever Shines,” in 2008 via Walker Davis Records The 14-track collection featured guests Melvin Williams (of the Williams Brothers) and Shirley Murdock.

In 2009, Belle suffered a Brain Tumor and under went 2 surgeries that left her deaf in one ear. Belle’s faith was tested and she stood on God’s word that she would be healed.

Belle in June 2012 released her Testimony album , “HIGHER”, Regina Belle has a simple but powerful message. “I pray that each listener has an experience. My whole objective in doing this record is to bring people into the presence of God. Some of us don’t always get there through the preached word. The music is only second to that, but I want to be able to know that I did my job and if you don’t have words to say, then use my words. If you don’t have a voice, then use my voice. If you don’t have the music or the setting, use mine. I believe that my music helps people get to a special place.” That place is a closer walk with God, one that is sweeter, deeper, richer and HIGHER!

Melky Jean

Melky Jean aka Melky Sedeck is a Grammy Nominated Singer, Song writer and Humanitarian who happens to be the younger sister of Fugees founder Wyclef Jean. Melky has worked with and performed with artist such as Carlos Santana, Sinead O’Connor, Beyonce, Shakira, Destiny’s Child, Regina Belle, The Roots, Black Eye Peas, Outkast, Mobb Deep, Sara Mclaughlin, Patti Lablle and more.
Melky’s vocals can be found on soundtracks like Showtime’s hit series “The CHI”, movies such as: “Love Jones”, “Little Nikki”, “Two Can Play That Game”, “The Hurricane”. She is the voice of Sanaa Lathan in HBO’s Original Movie “Disappearing Acts”. Her press book contains over 100 magazine publications from around the world. Melky has been critically acclaimed by Rolling Stones magazine naming her one of the best underground acts, Vibe magazine and even Cosmopolitan magazine went as far as to compare her to a young Gladys Knight. If she isn’t touring with her brother Wyclef Jean, she can be found performing with her band doing “A Tribute To Soul Music”. In the show, Melky incorporates her own original songs with some of her favorite soul legends like Betty Wright, Joe Cocker, Celia Cruz and Tina Turner to name a few.

Mike Smiff

Miami rapper Mike Smiff steadily built a reputation on the Dade County scene with a series of mixtapes in the 2010s. The rapper flipped between solo releases, like 2013’s 10 Toes Down, and collaborative tapes such as 2012’s Table Manners: We Gone Eat by Any Means Necessary, Vol. 2, which he made with Big Mann. In 2017, and with a substantial number of releases under his belt, Smiff signed to the Miami hip-hop label Slip-n-Slide. Later that year, he released the 17-track Chase Dis Money, followed by a guest-spot on labelmate Trick Daddy’s single “Paradise.” ~ Bekki Bemrose

Chubb Rock

Chubb Rock is a New York-based rapper who released several commercially successful hip hop albums in the early 1990s with the smash hit, Treat Em Right (1991). He can now be heard daily on the Atlanta radio airwaves.
